As you know Graham and I are doing things a little unconventionally compared to other couples as we are already married. However we have always planned to do things this way as originally we were unable to secure our venue for 2008 (which has since changed) and 23rd August fell on a Sunday in 2009. What some of you may not know is the importance to 23rd August.
On 23rd August 1969 a young Michael John Dale married a young Denise Valerie Louise Corbin in Norwood, South London. These two fine people grew up to have 4 children, Louise, Jonathan, Hannah and Olivia Dale and it was when I (Hannah) announced to my mum and dad that I was getting married, that I received a very excited message from my mum announcing that the 23rd August 2008 ‘fell on a Saturday’, so in admiration of their outstanding 39 years of marriage I was honoured to share their wedding anniversary. So Graham and I decided not to compromise our venue or our date and therefore the plan to have our blessing a year later was hatched.
Our original wedding was very low key and only immediate family were invited to the ceremony in Stamford. We then went on to celebrate at the 31st Peterborough Beer Festival. Graham and I had even elected to boycott the tradition of stag and hen do’s until this year. So for all intense purposes this year will be treated as our ‘other’ wedding day where all our friends and family can share in OUR day. This also means that on 22nd August 2009 Mike and Denise are inviting friends and family to celebrate their 40 years of marriage as well as Graham and Hannah's first year.
